An 8th grade student at Childersburg Middle School in Childersburg, Alabama was allegedly paddled for writing “Trump” on the blackboard of his classroom his parents claim. The incident happened, two days after the General Election. Troy Stephenson, the student’s father told AL.com that for the two weeks leading up to the election, students were given assignments to watch coverage of the election and study the process. He went on to say that it would only be natural after the assignments for the students to continue to discuss the discussions once the results came in.
A coordinator for the Talladega County School System told AL.com that he could say with “100% accuracy that no student would ever be disciplined based on their political beliefs.”
Stephenson said that he spoke with a school official Monday morning and was told that his son was not paddled becasuse he wrote “Trump” on the board, but simply because he wrote on the board.
Stephenson stated that he has contacted an attorney and they are deciding what to do next.
