Van Blarcum posted on Facebook that anybody in Ulster County, New York who can legally carry a gun should carry a weapon on them in response to “recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world.”
The Facebook status, which was posted a day after the attack, is not meant to spark a discussion on guns. It’s to serve as a reminder that people should exercise their Second Amendment rights. “All I was doing as reminding people that here in Ulster County, if you are a licensed hand gun owner, and you feel comfortable carrying that handgun, you’re proficient with that handgun, and you’re responsible with that handgun, then I encourage you to carry that handgun,” Van Blarcum told CBS 2 News.
